Regulation of integrative and complementary medicine Student: Eva Škulková Tutor: PharmDr. Jitka Pokladníková, Ph.D. Dept. of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University, the Czech Republic Background: The prevalence of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is high 76% and it is rising. In the Czech Republic, there are no legislation or general standards that would ensure uniform requirements for providing CAM. At present, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding of how CAM methods are provided. Aim: To determine the level of regulation of the most commonly used CAM methods in the Czech Republic. Methods: The level of regulation has been evaluated according to regulatory criteria based on requirements for healthcare professionals. The list of the researched methods is based on foreign studies and at the same time specific CAM methods for the Czech Republic were added. Specific methods were selected by the expert group. The data was obtained by searching the Internet using The Google. The obtained data was processed in MS Excel using descriptive statistics. Results: Altogether, 98 CAM methods were searched. Of these, 28 methods were excluded from the evaluation, 70 methods were evaluated according to the criteria, and 2 methods were double...

Introduction: The interest and use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is constantly expanding. Despite the increased prevalence of the use of CAM in the Czech Republic, no common approach to regulation or general legislation of KAM has been adopted so far. At present, there is a lack of view of this issue on the part of KAM therapists in the Czech Republic. Aim: To determine the attitudes of CAM therapists to the regulation of CAM according to the criteria of evaluation of regulation, which are based on the requirements for health professionals. The secondary objective was to determine the influence of socio-demographic characteristics on the attitudes of CAM therapists. The Development of health policy approach to homeopathy in the early 21st century

Lenka Rabová, Vývoj přístupu zdravotní politiky k homeopatii na počátku 21. století Abstract The research theme of this thesis is the trend of raising disbelief of patients in Czech Republic in scientific medicine. The goal of the thesis is to reflect evolution of the homeopathy status in CZ from 1989 to present and to find causes and factors, for which patients prefers treatment by homeopathy, instead of scientific medicine. For the research, methods of (1) critical discourse analysis (CDA) (2) institutional analysis and (3) semi structured interview. The result: Homeopathy was tolerated between years of 1991-1996 by ČLS JEP. Worldwide studies of homeopathy gradually led to the summary of the assessment findings to the inefficiency of homeopathy. In the last five to ten years we can see strong critical and professional discourse on the national (CLS JEP, CLK Sysifos) and international (HNMRC, FDA) levels, which strongly aims against homeopathy. Homeopathy is being used by the patients because of lack of trust in scientific medicine, which is caused by commercializing of the scientific medicine, dissatisfaction of doctor's attitude, dissatisfaction of the methods and practices of scientific medicine, its results and absence of the holistic treatment. Analysis of information environment and information resources for pharmaceutical disciplines

The aim of the rigorous thesis is to describe and basically analyze representative databases and digital libraries that focus on pharmaceutical disciplines. The introductory chapter is concerned with related terminology, while the following chapters refer to significant concepts and principles in the field of pharmaceutical industry, to important institutions that have an impact on this field, and also to important classification systems and retrieval languages that can be found in some of the described resources. The sixth chapter focuses on pharmaceutical information resources which are offered by some of the world's leading database service companies. The seventh chapter contains a description and a basic analysis of 10 representative electronic resources for pharmaceutical disciplines. The eighth chapter describes representative information resources for complementary and alternative medicine. The empirical section of this diploma thesis consists of a subject coverage analysis of bibliographic databases MEDLINE, EMBASE and BMČ from the viewpoint of pharmaceutical information, and further deals with information brokering that is presented on example of the Medistyl company.
